ICT
Lackerry Ndunge joined ILRI as ICT endpoint officer in November 2019. Previously, she was working with Pan Africa Christian University for three years as ICT officer. She will be providing ongoing and continual endpoint back-end support on client technology which includes responding to Level 2 support, developing procedures, monitoring and reporting service improvements. She holds a BSc in Information Technology from KCA University and has more than six years’ experience in ICT service delivery and support. She will be based in ICRAF offices.
Animal and Human Health (A&HH)
Linnet Atieno joined the Animal and Human Health (A&HH) program as research associate in October 2019. She is responsible for carrying out bacterial identification and isolation, PCR and qPCR analyses, data analysis and purchase of laboratory supplies. She was previously at the Kenya Medical Research Institute in collaboration with CDC for four years, where she worked as assistant research officer in the diagnostics laboratory and systems program (DLSP. She holds a BSc in biochemistry and currently completing an MSc in Medical Microbiology at Maseno University.
Arshee Moodley was appointed team leader – anti microbio resistance in the ILRI Animal and human health (A&HH) program in November 2019. Previously, she has been living and working in Denmark for the last 13 years at the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, University of Copenhagen (UCPH). She holds a PhD in Antibiotic Resistance and Zoonosis from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark MSc (Med) with distinction in Clinical Microbiology, and BSc from University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.
Pacem Kotchofa joined ILRI’s Animal and Human Health (A&HH) program in November 2019 as post-doctoral fellow-small ruminants under the Epidemiology and Control of the Peste des Petits Ruminants (ECo-PPR) project in West and East Africa. Previously, she worked as a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant at Kansas State University (KSU), Manhattan, Kansas, in the Department of Agricultural Economics owing to her prestigious Legumes Scholar Program (LSP) awarded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in 2015. She holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics with a focus on International Development from KSU, an MSc in Applied Economics and Agricultural Policies from the University of OuagaII, and an Engineering degree in Agronomy Sciences from the University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC). Pacem is from Benin but has lived in the United States of America (USA) for several years and also in various West African countries.
Dorothy Muchiri joined ILRI in November 2019 as program accountant in the Animal and Human Health program. She holds a BCom degree in Finance from KCA University and is a Certified Public Accountant, (CPA-K). Before joining ILRI she was working with CIP as Accounting Analyst. Previously, she worked as project accountant at Land O’ Lakes and as a Finance Assistant at PATH Kenya.
Sustainable Livestock Systems
Watson Lepariyo joined Sustainable Livestock System (SLS) program as research associate in October 2019. He is responsible for developing, testing and training on data collection tools. He was previously research assistant in ILRI’s IBLI team, implementing various projects in northern kenya. Lepariyo holds a BSc in Foods, Nutrition and Dietetics from Egerton University.
Joy Andati joined ILRI in November 2019 as Assistant to Project Manager in the Sustainable Livestock Systems Program. She was previously working with Concern Worldwide Kenya as Programme Support Officer. She holds a BA in Gender and Development from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing an MA in Project Management from the same institution.
Francis Njenga joined ILRI’s Mazingira centre as laboratory technician in November 2019. Prior to this appointment, he worked at CIAT- International centre for Tropical Agriculture dealing with soil, manure and plant nutrients analysis. He has over 17 years’ experience in chemical analysis using standard operating procedure in a research laboratory. He will continue with the analysis at Mazingira Laboratory ILRI and also assist in Research activity facilitation. He holds a certificate in analytical chemistry from the Kenya Polytechnic university college.
Alice Onyango joined ILRI’s Sustainable Livestock Systems – Mazingira Centre as post-doctoral fellow – in the Restoration of Degraded African Landscapes project in October 2019. Previously, she was a consultant in charge of Mazingira Animal Nutrition Laboratory; scientific staff at University of Hohenheim, Germany, Hans-Ruthenberg Institute – Animal Nutrition and Rangeland Management in the Tropics and Subtropics. She has worked for over 7 years with smallholder farmers to characterize livestock greenhouse emissions and looking for sustainable ways of optimizing production and productivity of smallholder farming systems. She holds a PhD in Agricultural Sciences (Animal Nutrition) from University of Hohenheim, Germany; MSc in Environmental and Analytical Chemistry from Maseno University, Kenya; and a BEd (Science) from Egerton University, Kenya.
ILRI Ethiopia
Animal and Human Health
Abdi Etafa joined ILRI in December 2019 as capacity development associate in the Animal and Human Health program. He was previously working as Rural Development (scaling expert) and focal person for capacity development and social inclusion, the BENEFIT-REALISE project, Arsi University cluster. He holds a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degree in Rural Development and Agricultural Extension from Haramaya University.
Blen Damtew joined ILRI in December 2019 as project manager in the Animal and Human Health program. Before joining ILRI, she was working as Finance and Award Manager in Save The Children International, Ethiopia Programme. She holds an MA degree in Project Management and a BA degree in Management from Unity University.
Feed and Forage Development
Alemayehu Demeke joined ILRI in October 2019 as technical assistant in Feed and Forage Development program. Prior to this, he was working as technical assistant in the International Center of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE). He holds a BSc degree in Biotechnology from Gondar University.
Livestock Genetics
Abdulkadir Hassen joined ILRI in December 2019 as an ICT expert in the Livestock Genetics program. He was working as a Consultant in ILRI ADGG Project. He holds a Master of Technology in Computer and Information Technology from Defense University, College of Engineering and a BSc degree in Computer Science from Addis Ababa University.
Selam Meseret joined ILRI in December 2019 as national program coordinator in the Livestock Genetics program. Before joining ILRI, she was working as a researcher and team leader in Ethiopian Biotechnology Institute. She holds a PhD in Animal Production from Addis Ababa University, MSc degree in Tropical Animal Production and Health from Addis Ababa University, MSc degree in Range Ecology and Management from Haramaya University and a BSc degree in Animal Production and Rangeland Management from Debub University.
Administration
Mengistu Worku was appointed as engineering technician – electrical, in ILRI’s Administration department under the Engineering and Facilities unit. Before joining ILRI, he was working as a Multi skill maintenance worker at GOAL Ethiopia. He holds a diploma in Electrical Engineering from Addis Ababa university technology faculty and a diploma in General Mechanics from Selam technical and vocational college.
Addisu Gidissa joined ILRI in October 2019 as stores assistant in the Administration Department under the Supply Chain unit. Before joining ILRI, he was working as a Store Keeper at Edomias International. He holds a BA degree in Accounting from St. Mary’s university technology faculty and a diploma in General Mechanics from Selam technical and vocational college.
