Making the Asian dairy sector more sustainable
Call for entries
Dairy Asia is pleased to issue a call for entries for the Dairy Asia Sustainability Award. The award intents to recognize success stories of practice change from Asia and the Pacific region that make dairy systems more sustainable, both on- and off- farm.
The Dairy Asia Sustainability Award is an excellent opportunity to give visibility to your work and to inform and inspire others.
If your success story meets our initial selection criteria, you will be invited to present your work to a large audience at the next members’ meeting in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on 7-10 November 2017. Not only will this give you an opportunity to share the lessons you have learnt, but also to discuss together with like-minded professionals in the dairy sector how you can upscale your experience.
What is Dairy Asia looking for?
The platforms recognizes that sustainable transformation of the Asian dairy sector can only be achieved through the continuous efforts of switching to more sustainable practices. The Dairy Asia Sustainability Awards honors success stories of practice change from the region within the following three categories:
- Development of new innovative practices
- Adaptation of existing best practices to overcome local adoption barriers
- Innovative approaches to advocate, incentivize and upscale existing best practices
The switch to the new practice should have a positive impact on either:
- Economic growth and rural development
- Livelihoods of men and women (both improving and safeguarding)
- Food security and nutrition
- Public health
- Animal welfare
- Natural resources, climate and biodiversity
While we hope to find practice changes with positive impact in more than one area, we would ask that the newly adopted practice makes a positive contribution to at least one, while not adversely impacting the others.
Submission of entries and the selection process:
The submission deadline is 15 September 2017. All submission must follow the prescribed format (attached template, can also be downloaded from www.dairyasia.org) and should be sent by email to the Dairy Asia Secretariat (Asia-Dairy-Network@fao.org).
The success story should clearly describe the specific practice change, the approach and the impact of the practice change. The stories that meet our initial selection criteria will be presented at the next members’ meeting in Naypyidaw, Myanmar, on 7-10 November 2017.
The participants at the meeting will then vote on their favorite success story within each of the three categories. The winner in each category will receive the Dairy Asia Sustainability Award on the final day of the meeting.
Travel support:
We recognize that some organizations (especially NGOs or small producers/processors) may not have the means to travel to the meeting. In these cases Dairy Asia will support the travel of a few selected presenters.
