Addis campus infrastructure works

Dear Colleagues:

This is a quick update on some infrastructure works currently taking place at ILRI Ethiopia Addis campus.

Car parking project: – Currently car parking construction is been taking place in four different areas paved with cobble stone. Two of them are faced each other at the back of the Infocentre and left side of Fogera buildings, one is in front of Afar building and another one at the barn area. The project is expected to end on April 30 2017.
Security Works in the compound: – ILRI- Addis recently has a need of increasing the security on some main priority areas where security threats and vulnerabilities. The project includes the following works and expected to be finalized around July 2017.
– Construction of main gate,
– Construction of elevated look outs,
– Putting razor wire around the fence,
– Construction of speed barrier,
– Construction of small security shades posts.
Fire Hydrant: – this is high pressure water pipe line & pumps designed to increase the fire fighting capacity of a building by boosting the pressure in the hydrant service inside the compound. Since August 2016, excavation work is taking place around the campus and the work is expected to be finalized by June 2017.
Signage: – A big CGIAR logo and ILRI Logo will be placed separately on the stone masonry wall found on left side of the road before reaching the entrance. A new CGIAR and ILRI logos on a lighted up elevated sign will be placed on the on the brick wall at the entrance. And the third one will be replacing the tall signage found in the compound with all the logos to a bigger structure so that sign is more visible from a distance. These signs are expected to be placed between April 15 -30, 2017.
Foundation work for the central unit:- this is a structure placed to collect all water works control in one place. The construction is located around the main water tanker area and expected to be completed at the end of April 2017.
Jogging path leveling by red ash: – This jogging route is also used as patrol road for security. The work has been taking place since March 2017 by removing the grass which grow after the rainy season, cleaning the ditches nearby and keep the slope to drain water and laying red ash top and compacting it with compactor. The work is almost finished and will be 100% completed in the coming week.
K-Span relocation and construction of new K- span :- currently this work is taking place in the barn area by relocating K-span structure which was previously placed next to Sululta building and a newly constructed k-span store I order to make the garage functional. The work is expected to be finalized by end of May 2017.
Container Relocation and Foundation work: – this is relocating all container found in the campus in one place by constructing foundation work at the barn area. The work is expected to be finalized by end of May 2017.
