Dear Campus users,
I just want to quickly update you on some infrastructure works currently, or soon, taking place on the Campus:
- Signage: In order to present ourselves more as a CGIAR compound, we are increasing our CGIAR branding; A big CGIAR logo was added to the big signage tower at the entrance. This tower will be moved inside the compound next week and replaced with a new CGIAR sign board outside .
- Staff Houses: The building of the new staff houses (north side) has started and should be finalized within the next 10-12 months. More communication on this to follow.
- Football field: Because of the house building project, we had to close the old football pitch, but the new one (North-West corner) is almost ready for use; we were unfortunate by the lack of rains recently, but by the first week of November the grass should be strong enough to play on. Watering and maintenance continues and borderlines and goals will soon be added.
- Outside Restaurant area: Currently this area is being renovated; mainly extending the roof to provide more shaded seating space. Works should be finished mid next week.
- Quarantine zone: New fences and gates are set in place to ensure that our farm/animal units are all well closed off as a proper quarantine zone. The current entrance to this zone (the white tent next to Mara house), will soon be moved to next to the calf house (opposite the stores building). More information on this from our animal unit will follow soon.
- Lights: we are adding some lights around the compound, to create better atmosphere and visibility at night.
- Parking Mara house: In November we will start building carports with Solar energy roofs on the Mara house parking area. Besides shade for the cars, these should provide us with significant solar energy to cut costs and emissions. Mara house occupants will be soon be informed about the exact timing and parking arrangements during that period.
- Tennis court: new gravel to be placed in coming weeks
- General : several small renovations and upgrades, of painting, signage, outside furniture etc. in progress
Sorry for any convenience caused by these works, but I hope you all agree they will all improve our work & life environment on the compound.
For any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me or our engineering department
