You are invited to attend the presentation on Gene Discovery and Fast Track Breeding for Abiotic Stress Tolerant Potatoes and Sweetpotatoes by Dr. Awais Khan at Konso meeting room at 2 pm on June 03, 2016 (Friday).

Dr. Awais Khan is Senior Scientist at International Potato Center (CIP). He is leading the efforts to uncover the genetic basis of adaptation and abiotic stress tolerance, in particular for drought, heat and salinity, for potatoes and sweet potatoes. His background is in population and quantitative genetics, comparative genomics and bioinformatics, with wide experience of genetic and genomic tools and techniques. He is particularly interested in making use of current advances in genome sequencing and bioinformatics to address issues of maintaining crop productivity under worsening climate conditions and development of marker-assisted selection and genomic selection strategies to accelerate breeding for CIP’s global targets.
