We have been experiencing difficulty with the power supply since last week. Over the holiday weekend we had a major failure of an underground power line. Through the efforts of many Engineering, ICT and Security personnel and contractors during the holiday weekend, an interim solution is currently in place for most of the campus. ICRISAT, IFAD, the motor pool and the temporary gym are currently without power, but technicians will work to restore this Monday morning.
You will notice that there is a power line on the grass near the sidewalk above ground between the Borena (admin building) and the cafeteria. We ask that you refrain from going near the power line.
This week, technicians will be working on implementing a permanent solution. Disruptions in power may be experienced until a permanent solution is in place. Until then, we ask all staff and residents to be mindful of their power usage. Please try to minimize use of appliances or devices which consume a lot of power, or unplug them if not required.
We are also experiencing a disruption in Internet service from our service provider. Currently the ILRI network is supplied by the VSAT and the guest network is down. Please also be mindful of our limited bandwidth until this situation is resolved by not streaming video/audio or downloading large files unless it is essential for your work.
Thank you for your patience and we will keep you updated on the situation.
Thank you,
Gail Amare | Head of Administration, Ethiopia
