ILRI Ethiopia: Children on Campus During Summer Months

As schools are closing and the summer months have arrived, we would like to remind all campus users that children, age 13 and below, may not be left unaccompanied at the Zebu Club or anywhere else on the campus unless they are registered participants of the summer sports camp. In addition, children may not be brought to the office or laboratory areas. Employees must always obtain permission in advance from their supervisor before bringing a child to work.

During this busy season, we also ask that club members limit bringing child guests to the Club during work hours. In recent years we have seen increasing numbers of unsupervised children and their friends hanging out at the club for long periods of time. While the club aims to remain a kid-friendly place, it must be with the supervision of their parents or a responsible adult.

For parents of older kids over the age of 13, we ask you and your children to please be mindful and considerate of the space limitations in the club by limiting the amount of time spent in the Clubhouse to 1-2 hours during these busy summer months. We ask you to please familiarize your older children with the following etiquette which is posted in the Zebu Club guidelines, and for parents to monitor their children’s behavior:

  • If you are using ILRI’s guest network, please minimize downloading to reserve the bandwidth for all our guests. No video streaming, torrents or large files during office hours.
  • If you will be working in the clubhouse and staying for a long time, please be mindful of how much space you are taking by sharing tables and sharing outlets.
  • If you are with a group, be sure to consider other guests enjoying the clubhouse by consolidating space usage and reducing noise levels.
  • If you are on a conference call or using any electronics, use headphones.

Finally, during these summer months and at all times, please drive carefully on the compound to protect our children. If you see anyone driving irresponsibly, please record their plate number and report it to Security as soon as possible.

Thank you for your assistance to make our campus a place for all to enjoy.
