This is to inform ILRI staff who would like to register for Scopus to do so as soon as possible, noting that Elsevier limits the number of codes they give to the BibliothecaAlexandrina to issue to users, upon registration.
After registration, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina will send you personal activation codes, which will allow you to access ScienceDirect and Scopus.
Please register for the online resources, by filling details on the Alexandrina Researchers’ online form; please see the details below from Bibliotheca Alexandrina (www.bibalex.org):
As the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA; the Library of Alexandria) feels deep sorrow for the closure of the Library and Information Services Department of the Royal Tropical Institute, we are proud of taking the mission of hosting the vast part of the KIT Library’s collection of about 400,000 books and 20,000 journals at the BA in Alexandria, Egypt. We are also proud of being committed to resume the vital role that the KIT Library used to play for years through its Virtual Knowledge Community (VKC) to support researchers and research institutions in low and middle income countries.
The BA took this initiative of undertaking the collection and information services of the KIT Library out of its commitment to recapture the spirit of the Ancient Library of Alexandria by being a center of excellence in the production and dissemination of knowledge, a meeting place for minds, and a place for learning and understanding between cultures and peoples. Read more about the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (http://bibalex.org/aboutus/overview_en.aspx), its mission/objectives (http://bibalex.org/aboutus/mission_en.aspx), and search our online catalog (http://chamo.bibalex.org:8090/?locale=en).
Based on both memoranda of understanding between the Library of Alexandria and The Royal Tropical Institute as well as Elsevier, the BA is pleased to carry out the information services which were provided by the KIT Library to the Virtual Knowledge Community, enabling courtesy access to Elsevier’s ScienceDirect and Scopus as well as providing the researchers of the Community with diverse training programs in collaboration with Elsevier, including information literacy courses, and authorship skills trainings. The BA will also work on keeping the KIT’s portals and dossiers frequently updated and will do its best to develop other information dissemination tools to serve the scholarly needs of the VKC members. Read the BA news on the KIT’s collection (http://www.bibalex.org/News/NewsDetails_EN.aspx?id=4860&) and about the BA-Elsevier MoU (http://www.elsevier.com/connect/dutch-royal-tropical-institute-passes-the-baton-to-the-library-of-alexandria-in-egypt/_recache).
In due time, I’ll invite you to join the new BA Virtual Community group which the BA is going to develop for you. The new BA group will replace the current iManagement Dgroup community previously created by KIT. Till then, we will keep interacting through the iManagement group. I’ll also be delighted to receive your emails through the iManagement email and/or using the following email: information.services
So the BA might be able to better serve you and keep smooth contact with all members of the KIT’s VKC, I’d like to ask each distinguished member of the KIT’s VKC & iManagement group to provide the BA with his/her data through the acquaintance form available via the following link:
“Alexandrina Researchers” Form . We look forward for the kind prompt interaction of all members.
When you kindly register your data using the above mentioned form, we’ll be sending you an email which will contain your activation code which will be necessary to resume access to ScienceDirect and Scopus. The email will also include the necessary instructions to go easily through the activation steps using the new activation page especially developed for you by Elsevier.
