ILRI Tanzania: compiled by Mercy Becon (M.Becon@cgiar.org)

  • 22 January: ILRI Tanzania has a country staff meeting that will be held in the Morogoro office on 22st Jan where all ILRI Tanzania staff is expected to attend. Thereafter Amos will attend the Extension Services Workshop at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) organized by Ministry of Agriculture and Food Cooperatives and Irish Aid.
  • 19-24 January: David Ngunga will visit meet farmers and District/extension officers at Babati as part of African RISING/ILRI at Babati project.

  • January 17–24: Annet Mulema will be in Los Banos, Philippines to attend to important meetings (1) the meeting for the PI’s of the Global Study on gender Norms and Agency on Jan 17-18; and (2) the Annual meeting of the CGIAR Gender and Agriculture Research Network on 19-23 Jan 2015. The Annual meeting will be held at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). The meeting has been structured in two parts. Part I will focus on gender mainstreaming, experience and good practice. Part II will target specific themes identified as integral for future gender research within the CGIAR and the global agricultural research agenda. I will be representing the Livestock and Fish CG Research Program and will present highlights of the gender research within the CRP.
  • January 19–21: Dr. Abule Ebro and Fanos Mekonnen from LIVES project will be attending Facilitation Skills Course that will be held at ILRI campus in Nairobi, Kenya.
  • January 21–23: ILRI-N2Africa project has organized the second annual planning workshop at the InfoCentre of the ILRI campus. The aim of the workshop is to review progresses in 2014 and plan the 2015 activities. On the occasion the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) models will also be presented and validated. The participants constitute from NARS, CGs, farmer cooperative unions, agro-processors, exporters, input suppliers and NGOs. N2Africa leadership team from Nairobi and Wageningen will also participate.
  • January 19–24: McKnight Foundation will have an inception meeting at the Konso Auditorium.
  • January 20–22: Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will have a staff meeting at the Jugol meeting room.

  • January 19–23: Grace Asiimwe will oversee the pig Value chain assessment  and application of the FEAST tool in Hoima District.
  • January 21–22:  Michel Dione will attend  the Eastern Africa African Swine Fever Working Group Workshop at Der Salaam, Tanzania. He will give a presentation on the Smallholder Pig Value Chain Development Project in Uganda.

  • January 19-23: Fred Unger will visit Vientiane, Lao with the following objectives: 1) to support the country meeting of the Laos research group under the ComAcross CIRAD funded One-Health project. During this meeting the country proposal (Control of zoonotic parasitoses in small holder pig systems using an One-Health approach) will be reviewed and further developed; 2) to meet with former researchers of the Laos EcoHealth project to review progress on publications; and 3) may also meet with Adrian Bollinger to have some more discussions on the Cross CRP project for Vietnam where we about to start the field survey.
  • January 20-27: Hung Nguyen will attend the  Sakura International Exchange Program in Science (Sakura Science Program) organized by the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN) in Kyoto, Japan as funded by JSPS. This is linked to Ecohealth activities of ILRI and partners in SEA. During this program Hung will also participate in the following: 1) 3rd International Workshop on Future Earth in Asia on 21st; 2) workshop on the “Transformations toward Sustainability: Voices of Early-Career Asian Scholars” on 22nd; and 3) visit the Digital Earth Applied Science Research Center (IDEAS) at Chubu University.
  • January 22: Steve Staal, Jackie Escarcha and Jules Mateo will meet with Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Studies and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) officials in Los Baños to explore potential areas for collaboration.

BecA-ILRI hub

  • 19–22 JanuaryAppolinaire Djikeng will travel to Addis Ababa – Ethiopia to attend the Expert Working Group Meeting on Transforming Healthcare Delivery in African using technology. The meeting is convened by the African Network for Drugs and Diagnostics Innovation (ANDI) in collaboration with UNICEF and The World Bank. The objective of the meeting is to develop a strategy to better leverage existing expertise and capacity in Africa to support partnerships for research and development of technologies required for enhanced surveillance, diagnosis and management of emerging infectious diseases (EIDs).

Livestock Systems & Environment (LSE)

  •  16–22 January: Lance Robinson will be in Addis and Yabello, Ethiopia for meetings and field research at CCAFS site, Borena.

P&OD

  •  Patricia will attend a Facilitation Skills Training from 19th to 21st January at JVC.

Bio-innovate

  • January 23: Bio-Innovate host the Finger Millet Genome Sequencing Progress Review Meeting at the ILRI Nairobi campus.
