This notice is to share some recent changes we’ve made with our drainage system on campus. You may have noticed that we have been closing the open drainage ditches around Addis campus, transitioning to a closed, and pipe system.
Here are some of the reasons that influenced the ongoing transition:
- As part of our commitment to making ILRI Addis campus a family-friendly environment, we had to address to risk of kids falling into the drainage ditches while playing around;
- The open drainage system requires frequent cleaning;
- Aesthetically, the closed-pipe system looks nicer, with greens on top.
The new system won’t affect the drainage system since the pipes are placed with the correct slope and with catch pits in 20 meters.
As part of this transition, and as we orchestrate these changes, please bear with us that there may be some piles of soil by the roadside, especially along the main road. These are being used for leveling-out the newly refurbished drainage system as well as the lawn grounds. Our unit has also planned and working on the sprinkler system in order to make the compound to have nice gardening area, which we hope we will all enjoy in the near future.
We thank you all in advance for bearing with us during this transition process. If you have any questions, you may contact the unit help desk. We look forward to working with you in making ILRI campus better place to work and live.
Thank you!
