ILRI Kenya street lights project – November 2014 to March 2015

We are in the process of upgrading our street lights at ILRI Nairobi campus through a 4 month project being done by our contractor, Philafe Engineering.

The project aims at replacing existing street lights with modern ones. The current lights have aged and have been susceptible to frequent failures, which this project now addresses. We shall also introduce solar lighting on some on the new lighting posts, further saving on power. We also intend to install energy efficient lighting units and extend coverage of lighting to improve on both security and user experience in the evenings.

The project is being done in two major phases, and shall concentrate on areas around our internal roads. The first phase involves installation around Residential units, Hostels, AATF and car park. The second phase covers the rest of ILRI (Main roads, Admin, ISAAA, Central Core).

During the project, expect some excavation works besides our roads for purposes of laying the cables and installing the light posts.

We request campus, hostel, residential and road users to be cognizant of the trenching works and be careful around these places to prevent any accidents. Children are especially likely to be vulnerable, hence the need for careful supervision of these juniors.

We apologize for any inconveniences that this project may cause.
