ILRI Ethiopia engineering and facilities maintenance activities – October update

Hereunder is a glimpse on ILRI-ADD Campus wide activities:

Excavation of underground deep water well/Bore hole:

  •  Purpose: Self-sufficiency on water supply due to the fact the ever growing water shortage around premises of ADD-Campus
  •  Status to date: 95% completed volume-wise
  • Discharge Rate: 19 liter per sec
  • Depth:300 meter
  •  Service Duration: Min 10 years
  •  Immediate Application: Fully Automated sprinkler system for green campus conducive to research activities & designed as well to supplement main water supply in event of complete water disruption.

Jogging track Rehab work & New route access

  • Purpose: Staff & residence can now jog around the campus without any disruption.
  • Status to date: Open for use as of last week

Oxidation pond/sewer network construction project

  •  Purpose: Regulated sewer disposal system according to the local authority health & safety regulation
  •  Status to date: above 50% volume wise.
  •  Benefit: local Environmental, health and safety compliance/build trust on communities around the campus
  • Future Plan: recycling to supplement ever growing demanding of water at least we can use it for watering the perimeter fence trees and all others aside

French drain construction project

  • Purpose: surface water capture and direct to avoid structural effect around the residential areas.
  •  Status to date: on verge of wrapping up
  •  Benefit: Reduces frequent masonry maintenance of the buildings

1. Bio-safety level-2 laboratory construction project
2. G+2 Gym construction project
3.ILRI-ADD Campus Master Plan Development

4. Fire Hydrant system
5. Fully Automated sprinkler for watering all gardening/green campus
6. Other minor R&M projects
