Jules Mateo, new communications specialist for East and Southeast Asia

Please welcome Julie (“Jules”) Mateo, our new Communications Specialist for East and South East Asia.

Jules Mateo is an experienced copy editor/writer with a background in social sciences and humanities. Jules has an undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of the Philippines Diliman. She later did graduate work in MA Media Studies Major in Film at the University of the Philippines Film Institute. From 2010 to 2012, she studied MA Gender Studies at Utrecht University in the Netherlands and University of Łódź in Poland.

Before joining ILRI, Jules worked for offshore publishing companies based in the Philippines, where she edited scientific articles (SPi) and literary works (inWrite). She also briefly worked for the Manila office of Devex, an American company involved in international development. She has also done some volunteer work for local NGOs and international film and art festivals held in Manila.

She is based at  International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Los Banos, Philippines and will be supporting regional research communications, including the key CRPs working in the region.  She will also link to ILRI’s corporate communications and Communications and Knowledge Management (CKM) teams.
