Addis Ababa campus engineering update – August 2014

This is an update on engineering projects on the Addis Ababa campus

 Major projects completed

  1. Expansion of water supply

    1,250,000,000 liter main water reservoir
    Objective: To supply water at lease for 10 days in event of water shortage.
    Start date: Oct. 2013
    End date: Feb. 2014
    Duration: 8 weeks
    Location: NW side of the campus

  2. Water supply line rehabilitation work

    Objective: To minimize water loss via leakage
    Start date: Dec, 2013
    End date:: Feb, 2014
    Duration: 8 weeks
    Location: campus

  3. Speed ramp/speed brake

    Objective: safety compliance & over speed protection
    Start date: July, 2014
    End date: August, 2014
    Duration: 6 weeks
    Location: Campus access road

Projects in progress

1. Construction of French Drain

Aim: surface and storm water collection removal system to avoid cracks on buildings.

2. Oxidation pond:

Additional waste water treatment and elimination in accordance to local waste water management regulation

3. Bore hole/ underground water wheel

Aim: self-sustainability and additional water source. got approved. excepted to be completed within two Months i.e. late October, 2014

4. Campus Signage

Aim: ILRI Branded signage/under approval process

Objective: safe walk way & rain water line expansion

End date: Sep. 2014
Duration: 4 weeks

6. Construction of Gym & BSL-2 lab

Objective: construction of state-of –art gymnast facilities & Bio-safty level-2 Forage laboratory
Consultant: CPMS
Start date: 2014
End date: 2015
Duration: 12 months
Location: existing gym areas

1. Building water proofing
Aim: office rain leakage prevention
Status: completed
2. Electric power distribution project:
Aim: safe, user friendly and up-to-date power supply system
3. Hostel B-blocks expansion
