Between July and September this year, Campbell Project Management Services (CPMS) has been retained to support development of a campus master plan (CMP).
This is a significant milestone in the development of the ILRI Addis Ababa campus and is expected to result in a working document which serves as a reference /guide for any future new constructions/refurbishment of on any of the campus assets, infrastructure. It will also serve as a major input in developing strategic facilities planning (SFP) in a bid to build a sustainable facilities maintenance system for the years to come.
The plan will also provide strategic direction for the development of the physical environment of ILRI over the next ten years to come. And the process is expected to engage the ILRI and wider campus community to understand the cultural environment in which the development is occurring. Hence, this process and the outcome is expected to reflect and establish real and achievable experience and expectations for the Campus into the future.
The contract also comprises two specific sub projects:
GeneBank
The project involves the construction of a new block for the Genebank comprising:
- Genebank storage area to house 3 cold rooms and about 40 upright deep freezers
- Open plan laboratory areas for germination and taxonomy
- Biosafety level 2 (BSL2) laboratories with controlled access
- Office block with open plan office space and meeting room for scientists, technicians and administrative staff
- Service rooms for storage of samples/supplies and chemical storage cupboard
Gym
The project combines new building construction and old building renovation. In addition to that the project is surrounded by different service providers like House, cafeteria, Hostel and Gymnasium together with all the green areas around the buildings and infrastructure utilities like IT line, water supply line, carriage way electric line, sanitary line etc. So the project specifically needs special care and scheduling to conduct the work without disturbing the mentioned facilities.
