ILRI NRS Nairobi staff appointments: March-April 2014

Jason Rogena

Jason Rogena joined ILRI on 1 March 2014 as a Systems Developer in the Animal Biosciences Program. He holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Nairobi. He has two years’ experience, mainly from working in a research project at Nokia Research Centre.

Ruth NyagaRuth Nyaga joined ILRI on 1 March 2014 as Human Resource Officer – Learning and Development. She previously worked in the same position on an acting capacity from 1st September 2013 to 28th of February 2014 before her contract was regularized. Before joining ILRI she worked for KenolKobil Petroleum as Human Resource Officer and later joined Roy Transmotors Limited as Human Resource Manager. She holds a Master’s Degree in Human Resource management and is a registered member with Institute of Human Resource Management.

Wacera NdongaWacera J. Ndonga joined ILRI as the Program Management Officer for the Food Safety and Zoonoses theme on 1 March 2014. She holds an undergraduate BSc. Economics and an MBA from Morgan State University. Before joining ILRI, Wacera worked as a Junior Expert in Program Management at the East African Community, Arusha for a GIZ project.

Jeridah SinangeJeridah Sinange joined ILRI on 10 March 2014 as the EOHS officer-Research. She holds a BSc in Biological Sciences and an MSc in Environmental Legislation and Management. She is a lead expert with NEMA and a member of KOAN(Kenya Organics Agriculture Network). She has 6 years’ experience in Environmental and social standards development and implementation, audits and inspections and professional training in OHS, Environment and project cycle management..

Ivan MuhaviIvan Lihenzero Muhavi joined ILRI as EOHS Technician – Research on 10 March, 2014. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health from Moi University. Prior to this appointment, Muhavi worked as a student associate at the EOHS department and also as the EOHS technician. He was also at Moi teaching and referral hospital, Bungoma district hospital, Kitale district hospital and Sirisia Health center as a student associate dealing with various Health issues their control and management e.g. Solid waste management hence bringing problem solving ideas for various health issues.

Enid Wanjiru Ongaya

Enid Wanjiru Ongaya joined ILRI as EOHS Technician – Operations on 10 March 2014. She has a BSc. Management of Agro-ecosystems and Environment and is currently doing her Master of Arts in Environmental Law. She also holds a certificate in OSHA Training from OSHAcademy and is an Associate EIA/EA expert registered with NEMA. She previously worked as  EOHS Technical Assistant prior to her appointment where she worked in dealing with fire safety, first aid, ergonomics and occupational health related matters.

Stanley IrunguStanley Irungu joined ILRI on 15 April, 2014 as an Office Assistant in the Livestock Systems and Environment (LSE).  Previously, he worked in Chemserve Cleaning Services, and in Avalab Limited as Office Assistant.  Stanley has a certificate in Micro Soft office packages from Unix Computer Solutions.


Esther MukoyaEsther Mukoya
joined ILRI as Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) Engineer on 15 April 2014. She has more than ten years’ experience in ICT Systems development and training gained in academia, and public service. Her career track include assignments with government agencies where she has extensively managed projects involving feasibility studies, systems analysis, design, development and implementation of new, moderately complex ICT systems. She has comprehensively worked in Record Management Units in the government mainly training users on electronic record systems, implementing the electronic record management system in government ministries. She has profound knowledge in ICT project development and management. She has a Masters in information systems management from the University of Nairobi.

Fredrick GathogoFredrick Gathogo joined ILRI on 22 April, 2014 as an Internal Auditor.  He has more than 10 years’ experience gained from working in both external and internal audit. He has previously served as an Internal Auditor in the Petroleum Industry as well as in the manufacturing sector in Kenya. Trained as a certified public Accountant, Fredrick also served in several external audit firms in Nairobi offering professional services in the areas of Finance, Accounting and statutory audits.  Fredrick is also a trained Certified Public Secretary of Kenya and a graduate in International Business Administration.
