ILRI NRS Nairobi & hosted staff appointments: January – February 2014

Jennifer KinuthiaJennifer Kinuthia joined ILRI as an Administrative Assistant on 6 January, 2014, Capacity Development Unit. She has more than four years’ experience gained in Administrative duties. Recently worked as an Administrative Assistant for Cargo Human Care Medical Centre. She has a Diploma in Business Administration and currently doing a Degree in Business Administration and Management at St. Paul’s University and  is a Certified Public Secretary (Part 1).

Anthony WamaiAnthony Wamai joined ILRI as a Property Accountant on 6 January, 2014. He has seven years’ experience in Accounting and Finance. Prior to this, he worked as a Fixed Asset Accountant at Telkom Orange where he helped set up a Fixed Asset module for the company. Before assuming duties at Telkom Kenya he worked as a Financial Accountant at Total Kenya ltd.  He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree, Accounting from University of Nairobi and  a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya-CPA (K). He is a member of Institute of Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (ICPAK).

Daisy Wanjiru KariukiDaisy Wanjiru Kariuki joined ILRI as a Program Accountant,Vaccine platform on 6 January, 2014. She has more than five years’ experience in accounting and finance. Daisy previously worked with Kenya Girl Guides Association as a Program Accountant  the under USAID funded HOPE Program. She has also worked with Kingdom Sacco as an Accounts and Audit assistant and with UAP Insurance Company in administration. Daisy is currently pursuing her Masters in Business Administration (Finance Option) at the University of Nairobi. She holds a degree in Bachelor of Arts Economics from the University of Nairobi and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Monicah W.Njuguna

Monicah Njuguna joined ILRI  as a Laboratory Procurement Assistant on 6 January, 2014. She has four years progressive experience in  Procurement and Logistics in  Medical and Laboratory Equipment & Consumables for The Government, Private sector and NGO’s. She has a Bachelors degree in Biochemistry from University of Nairobi, Advanced Diploma in Purchasing and Supplies(CIPS Level 5),and is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Procurement and Logistics from Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology.

Juliah MbayaJuliah Karimi Mbaya has joined ILRI-Bio Innovate Unit as Administrative Clerk on 6 January, 2014.  She has more than 5 years’ administration and human resource experience gained in real estate, manufacturing,  advertising and media. Juliah’s career track has included media publications in the Daily Nation in which she has a column on careers for recent graduates and fresh hires. Recently, she has worked for a real estate firm Nyumba Link Limited, an organization that deals with real estate management. She has a Diploma in Human Resource Management from Nairobi Aviation College and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media and Communication from Mount Kenya University, Nairobi.

Crispus Mbaluto

Crispus Mbaluto joined ILRI as Research Technician (IITA) on 15 January, 2014.  He has research experience gained as Graduate assistant at Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI) and as Part time lecturer at the Technical University of Kenya and Mount Kenya University.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from Kenyatta University.

Jacqueline Waeni Muteti

Jacqueline Waeni joined ILRI as Research Technician on 15 January, 2014 under IITA. She was previously an intern in the molecular Biology and tissue culture labs in Chiromo campus. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry (Biotechnology and Molecular Biology) from the University of Nairobi. She also holds an advanced Diploma in Project Management from the Kenya Institute of Project Management (KIPM).

Julius Githinji

Julius Githinji joined ILRI as a Research Technician within the Livelihoods, Gender, Impact and Innovation team on 15 January, 2014.  He has previously worked as a consultant on several ILRI regional projects, supporting research, especially in pilot testing innovative mechanisms, linking milk producers to markets, data collection, management, analysis and reporting. He holds a Bachelor of Agribusiness degree from Egerton University.

Naftaly GithakaNaftaly Githaka  joined ILRI  as a support officer for the tick unit on 20 January, 2014.  Naftaly previously worked with ILRI for seven years (2002-2009) as a research technologist for the vector genomic project where he contributed towards identification and characterization of candidate anti-tick vaccine antigens.  Naftaly holds a PhD in veterinary medicine (2013) from Hokkaido University in Japan, a Master’s degree in molecular parasitology from Jomo Kenyatta  University of Agriculture and Technology (2008) and a Bachelor’s qualification  in biochemistry and chemistry from the University of Nairobi(2002).  Naftaly’s PhD studies focused on the molecular characterization of tick-borne haemoparaistes at the livestock-wildlife interface in Kenya and evaluation of a recently identified anti-tick vaccine antigen against important tick  vectors  found in  Japan.  Naftaly has authored and co-authored 15 publications in international peer-reviewed journals with several others under review. His role with ILRI will be to support on-going research projects on tick-borne diseases and to bring on board local and international collaborators to enhance the utility of the tick unit.

Phellister Mujeu Oduor

Phellister Mujeu Oduor  joined ILRI  as Swimming Pool Lifeguard on 20 January, 2014. She previously worked with MOI International Sports Center for five years before joining ILRI. She has vast experience in life saving, pooinstructing, pool training, pool treatment and  First Aid. She is a trained Lifeguard with Kenya lifesaving federation.

Joseph NjorogeJoseph Njoroge joined ILRI on 1 February, 2014 as Human Resource Assistant, Learning and Development. Previously he has been working in ILRI for the last 2 years initially as an intern then on  temporary contractual basis in recruitment and Compensation & Benefits respectively. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Human Resources from University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Human Resource from Railway Training Institute.  

Haron Mugo Ng’ang’a

Haron Mugo Ng’ang’a joined ILRI  as an Electronics Technician in the Technical Services department on 1 February, 2014. He has over 11 years’ experience in Engineering Technical support, providing technical support services to various medical and scientific facilities.  Haron previously worked at Achelis (K) Ltd as a Service Technician in the Medical and Scientific department and holds a Diploma in Electronics Engineering and has undertaken several Medical equipment Technical training abroad.

Mary Wangari

Mary Wangari joined ILRI as a HR Assistant, Admin on 3 February, 2014. She previously worked with Africa Registrars, a Certified Pubic Secretary firm and was involved in administrative tasks as well as consultancy on Company Law. She has over 6 years’ experience in the area of administration and human resources.

Nicholas Mwenda

Nicholas Mwenda joined ILRI as ICT Customer Service Technician on 3 February, 2014. Prior to this appointment, he worked as temporary ICT Customer Service Technician at ICRAF where he has been actively involved in several key ICT projects as well Providing ICT Support to ICRAF campus and staff in the regions.  He holds a BSc in Computer science from the Makerere University and is currently pursuing an MSc in project management at JKUAT. Nicholas is also a Certified Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP).

John Juma

John Juma joined ILRI as Research Technician on 10 February, 2014 under IITA. He was previously an intern at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology, within the molecular biology and bioinformatics department. He recently had tenure at the Kenyatta University’s Plant Transformation Facility. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Kenyatta University. He has training in bioinformatics and has a strong interest in the area.

Clement Musyoka has joined ILRI as a Research technician- ReSAKSS on 15 February, 2014.His work experience includes Knowledge management and dissemination, database management, analysis of large datasets to answer analytical questions, report writing and extensive Knowledge and experience in agricultural and rural development issues in Sub Saharan Africa including field assignments within the ECA region. Clement holds a BSc in Economics from the University of Nairobi.

Mercy Mbogori-KairichiMercy Mbogori joined ILRI as a Research Assistant on 20 February 2014 with International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).  Mercy is a molecular biologist who has worked in Biotechnology Center, KARI and worked previously with ICRISAT. She holds an MSc in Veterinary Micropathology from Washington State University and BSc in Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry from University of Nairobi.
