Anne Liljander, Post Doc CBPP, BT01 team joined 1st April 2011. Anne, a Swedish national, holds a Phd in Infectious Diseases from Karolinska Institutet, Sweden awarded in 2010. Her PhD project was on Malaria: Multiclonal infections and protective immunity. Anne is part of the GTZ funded CBPP project where she will be rrequired to ensure the development of sensitive diagnostic tests and to investigate host-pathogen interactions to help with the development of improved vaccines. She can be found in lab 8 on extension 3462.
Mingyan Yu, Post Doc, BT02 Team, joined 1st April 2011. Yumi, a Chinese national holds a PhD in Mouse Genetics and Molecular Biology from Model Animal Research Centre, Nanjing University, China awarded in June 2006. Yumi is attached to a project funded by the BREAD programme of the National Foundation of USA where she will be investigating a transgenic approach to resistance to Trypanosomosis. She can found in Lab 8 on extension 3462
Elizabeth Dobson, Consultant, BT01 team, joined 15th March 2011. ELizabeth, is a Vet and holds a Masters Degree in Control of Infectious Diseases in Animals from Royal Veterinary College, UK. She will be working with Joerg Jores on the project “Enhanced control of CBPP in Sub Saharan Africa through development of better diagnostics and vaccines” by performing pre surgical assessment and monitoring, thoracic surgery and post surgical monitoring of goats.
Cecilia Rumberia, Research Technician, BT02 team, joined 1st March 2011. Cecilia, a Kenyan national, joined AVID (Arbo-Viral Incidence and Diversity) project. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) where she is also studying for a Master of Science degree in Genetics. She can be found in Lab 4 on extension 3467
Stacey Lynch, Post Doc, CIDLID Poultry Project based in Addis Ababa, joined March 2011. Stacey, an Australian national, holds a PhD in veterinary virology from The University of Melbourne. Her PhD topic was “Equine rhinitis A virus; molecular pathogenesis and methods for control”. She will play a key role in the CIDLID project “Reducing the impact of infectious diseases on village poultry production in Ethiopia” funded by DFID and BBSRC. Stacey will lead the development of low-cost diagnostics for poultry pathogens and establish a diagnostic laboratory at the Ethiopia Institute of Agriculture Research, Debre Zeyit. She is a Post Doc at the University of Liverpool and will be spending some time in Addis Ababa over the duration of the project. While in Addis Ababa, she will be working with Tadelle Dessie and the three PhD students attached to this project.
Judy Bettridge, PhD student, CIDLID Poultry Project based in Addis Ababa, joined January 2011. Judy is registered at the University of Liverpool. Her PhD topic is “the epidemiology and ecology of infectious diseases of village poultry in Ethiopia and the role of co infection in infection risk”. Her work will be carried out in Jarso, Horro and Addis Ababa. Judy’s ILRI supervisor is Tadelle Dessie.
Zelalem Gutu, PhD student, CIDLID Poultry Project based in Addis Ababa, joined January 2011. Zelalem Gutu is registered at the University of Liverpool. His PhD topic is “economic analysis of willingness to pay for animal Health services and preferences for traits of chicken in rural Ethiopia”. His work will be carried out in Jarso, Horro and Addis Ababa. Zelalem’s ILRI supervisor is Tadelle Dessie.
